I use it every evening to remove my eye makeup. This wonderful oil also makes a wonderful gentle yet effective coconut oil cleanser to use along with the oil cleansing method. A simple concoction of coconut oil, baking soda, and essential oils combine to create an all-natural and inexpensive beauty product that will leave your skin clean, smooth, and moisturized.
Coconut Oil Benefits
While it’s been believed for many years that putting oil on your face is a big beauty no-no, coconut oil is actually good for the skin. Using the coconut oil facial cleanser created from the recipe below helps to nourish and exfoliate your face without stripping it of all of its natural oils. In addition, coconut oil has been shown to:
- Possess anti-inflammatory properties.
- Help in the fight against wrinkles.
- Serve as an effective moisturizer.
- Contain anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.
Coconut Oil Cleanser
These are just a few of the many benefits of using coconut oil for the skin! This recipe is easy and inexpensive to make—especially compared to the cost of conventional name brand beauty product cleansers and exfoliators, many of which are full of chemicals and other nasty ingredients. The batch made from using this recipe should last you anywhere between 1 and 2 weeks, depending on how much you use.
The baking soda in the coconut oil DIY facial cleanser acts as a mild abrasive agent to gently remove dead skin cells from your face, leaving you with smooth skin. While it’s optional, adding a few drops of lavender or tea tree (also known as Melaleuca) essential oil can provide you with additional benefits as both of these oils have been shown to improve the healing of the skin. Coconut oil is a versatile oil that can be used in many ways in order to replace conventional beauty products. So whip up a batch of this amazing coconut oil exfoliating cleanser and get ready to enjoy smoother and softer skin!
When purchasing coconut oil, be sure to look for a brand that is cold-pressed, organic, and unrefined as it will provide you with the most health benefits.
Essential oils add a therapeutic quality to this recipe. When purchasing essential oils, be sure to look for high-quality therapeutic grade oils. The majority of essential oils on the market are not pure, are full of fillers, and contain harmful toxic ingredients.
What Is the Oil Cleansing Method?
Put simply, the oil cleansing method is simply replacing your typical facial cleanser with a high-quality oil. Base on the idea that “like dissolves like,” a quality oil, such as coconut oil, helps to remove dirt and makeup from the skin without stripping it of beneficial natural oils. The oil cleansing method is becoming more and more popular as many people are seeing the benefits of cleansing their skin with oil versus harsh cleansers.
Is It Safe To Use Essential Oils?
As I discussed, there are several essential oils that can be used with the oil cleansing method. When using essential oils, it is imperative to understand that all oils are not created equal. Please be sure that you purchase therapeutic grade essential oils that are certified pure from a reputable source. Many oils found in stores and online are filled with cheap filler oils and some are even toxic. Please do your homework before using any essential oil brand. Please note that all essential oils are not intended to be used internally and some may cause sun sensitivity.
