Have you ever wondered how to make natural homemade cleaners? If so you’re in the right spot! It’s no secret that conventional cleaners contain toxic chemicals and a long list of ingredients that you can’t pronounce. I’ve got little kiddos running around and I love the peace of knowing that the DIY non-toxic cleaning products I use are safe to use around them. In this article, I’ll share with you some of my favorite natural homemade cleaners that you can make with ingredients that you probably already have lying around your house. Sound good? Let’s do this.
How to Make Natural Homemade Cleaners: DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning Products
I love the way clean stainless steel appliances look. However, I don’t love the toxic ingredients found in conventional stainless steel cleaners. Below you’ll find the recipe for a more natural option for cleaning your stainless steel. It will help you clean smudges and fingerprints without worrying about nasty chemicals. And the best part is that this natural homemade cleaner is a snap to make.
DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning Product: Stainless Steel Cleaner
- One part vinegar
- One part water
- Spray bottle
Instructions:
Place ingredients in a spray bottle and shake to mix. To use, spray and wipe with a lint-free cloth.
Natural Homemade Cleaners: Clogged Drain Cleaner
There’s nothing more annoying than a clogged drain. Well, that’s probably not true, but I suppose we can agree that clogged drains are no fun. Unless you’ve got a major plumbing issue, clogged drains are usually an easy fix. I’ve used this method for years and it almost always does the trick.
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Boiling water
Instructions:
Pour baking soda down your clogged drain. The amount you need will vary depending on the severity of your clog. Start with 1/4 cup and increase the amount as needed. Next, pour about 1 cup of white vinegar down the drain. Finally, pour several cups of very hot water down the drain. I like to heat water in my coffee maker. You can add a cup or so of vinegar to your coffee maker so that it will get clean as well. Two birds, one stone. If you’ve got a really stubborn clog, a snake rooter (pictured below) from the dollar store works wonders.
Natural Homemade Cleaners: Pot Scrubbing Cleaner
Everyone, at some point, has been cooking and realized that they scorched the bottom of the pot. Please tell me that I’m not the only one. Fortunately, there is a DIY non-toxic cleaning product to save the day. This method is so easy: simply put about 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the pot with a little water. Using a scrubber sponge, scrub off the offending cooked-on food. For food that just doesn’t want to budge from the pot, place about 1 cup of water in the pot, and bring to a boil. Using a flat-edged wooden spatula, scrape the bottom of the pot as the water boils. Your pot will be as good as new in no time.
DIY Non-Toxic Cleaners: Shower and tub cleaner
Soap scum is no joke. Keep your shower and tub squeaky clean with this simple recipe. Bonus tip: keep a spray bottle of this DIY non-toxic cleaner in the tub and spray it down 30 minutes to an hour before you get ready to bathe. Wipe the walls and basin of the tub and rinse everything down as you shower.
- One part dish soap
- One part vinegar
Instructions:
Combine ingredients in a spray bottle and shake to mix. Spray on the tub and shower and leave for 30 minutes to one hour. Wipe walls and basin of the tub with a sponge and rinse with water.
DIY All-Purpose Cleaner
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 25 to 30 drops of your favorite essential oil (I love lemon, clove, and lavender)
- Essential oil-safe spray bottle
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in an essential oil-safe spray bottle and shake to combine. Glass spray bottles are best to use with essential oils as the oils can break down plastic over time. To use, spay mixture and wipe with a clean cloth. Use on countertops, mirrors, tabletops, and pretty much everything.
