Natural Anxiety Relief During Pregnancy: Natural Remedies for Anxiety While Pregnant
Here’s the deal: mamas like us don’t have time for complicated “so-called” solutions to the challenges we face. We need answers that are simple and fast to implement, am I right? I should know–I’m a mama to a toddler and I’ve got another little one on the way. That being said, let jump into how you can get natural anxiety relief while pregnant.
How to Calm Anxiety While Pregnant: Eat Low Glycemic Foods
This tip can be especially tricky during the first trimester. I completely understand. During the first three months of pregnancy you are just trying to survive on whatever food you can keep down. If you’re in the thick of the first trimester and fighting nausea, I feel you, mama! Just do your best to choose whole, real foods and to avoid sugary treats and starchy foods. Stick to fruits, veggies, healthy meats, and whole grains. The best way to avoid high-glycemic foods is to not bring them into your house. Keep healthy foods that are easy to grab front and center. Apples and boiled eggs are great snack choices. Just do the best that you can.
How to Reduce Anxiety When Pregnant: Avoid Triggers
Anyone who struggles with anxiety knows what their triggers are. Triggers are anything (and anyone) who contributes to anxiety. Mine used to be grocery shopping and social events. I avoid them like the plague because they had the potential to trigger anxiety and sometimes full-blown panic attacks. Fun times.
The truth is, you can’t live in a bubble or hide out in your home forever. So how are you supposed to avoid anxiety triggers? You do the best you can. If certain people make you feel anxious, do your best to limit the time you spend with them. If this person is a close friend or family member, it may be time to have a heart-to-heart with them. Explain to them how their words, actions, etc. make you feel. If this person truly cares for you they will strive to accommodate your needs. If talking with them doesn’t help, consider significantly limiting the time you spend with them until you can get your anxiety under control with other methods. Remember, you’ve got to prioritize your health and the health of your baby.
How to Control Anxiety While Pregnant: Prayer, Scripture, and Praise
As a believer, prayer, Scripture, and praise are some of the most powerful weapons we have in our fight against anxiety. Let’s be real–anxiety comes straight from the Enemy. It definitely doesn’t come from God. The Enemy wants you to believe that you’re all alone and that you’ll always be an anxious mama. Let me tell you, that’s a lie! The Bible gives us lots of instructions when it comes to overcoming anxiety. In addition, I’ve found that having my own personal worship serving in my living room does amazing things for getting rid of anxiety. Funny thing, the Enemy doesn’t like it when I praise my Creator. Imagine that. Here are a few of my favorite Scriptures for overcoming anxiety:
2 Timothy 1:7
John 14:27
Joshua 1:9
Isaiah 43:1
Psalm 23:4
Psalm 34:4
Psalm 27:1
Matthew 6:34
Anxiety During Pregnancy: Use Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is great for natural relief for anxiety during pregnancy. That’s because it is gentle and extremely calming. You can place a few drops in your favorite diffuser or inhale it directly from the bottle. It is also helpful to place a drop on the bottom of your foot before bed for a better night’s sleep. Just be sure to use a high-quality essential oil from a reputable company. Avoid purchasing oils from big-box stores as they are typically full of cheap filler oils and some of them even contain toxic ingredients. Using inferior oils means subjecting yourself and your baby to toxins during pregnancy. What’s more, you probably won’t get the calming effects you’re looking for. Double bummer.
Pregnancy Anxiety Attacks: Get Enough Sleep
Ahhh, sleep. Wonderful sleep. If you’ve already got kiddos, getting enough sleep can be a moving target. And then there’s the pregnancy insomnia, which is always fun. Here’s the deal–do the best you can to get as much sleep as you can. My husband and I aim to go to bed at a reasonable hour even though it’s tempting to enjoy several hours of “adult time” after we put our toddler down for the night.
It hasn’t taken me long to learn that I function so much better during the day when I get enough sleep. Getting enough shut-eye will help to calm your anxiety because you’ll wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to face the day. Proper sleep and rest results in feeling less frazzled. It also helps you to avoid feeling like a “mean mama” who is constantly snapping at her kids. So, get the sleep you need, friend.
